Review notes

The DeLonghi Primadonna Aromatic is a premium bean-to-cup machine offering good hot coffee and milk, but its cold brew is disappointing and the app is buggy. The Latte Crema hot milk system delivers excellent microfoam comparable to other top DeLonghi machines, with milk temperatures reaching around 65°C. However, the 'cold brew' dispenses at 38-39°C and tastes overly bitter, not resembling true cold brew, and the My Coffee Lounge app frequently crashes and requires Wi-Fi toggling on Android Pixel 9 Pro. If you primarily enjoy hot lattes and cappuccinos and don't mind a large machine, this could be a good fit. However, if you seek a robust cold brew function or a consistently reliable app experience, you should explore other options.

What the reviewer liked

  • Quiet operation during grinding (~60dB) and brewing (~40dB)
  • Latte Crema hot milk system produces excellent microfoam and hot milk (~65°C)
  • Intuitive and bright user interface with dedicated shortcuts for hot/cold drinks
  • Learns user coffee preferences based on time of day for up to four profiles
  • Bean Adapt feature helps optimize settings for specific beans by adjusting temperature, intensity, and grind
  • High maximum coffee dose (just under 14g)
  • Cold foam function is good and effective
  • Can be turned on remotely via the app

What the reviewer criticised

  • Large footprint, not suitable for cramped kitchens
  • Shiny panels do not look as premium as expected for a flagship machine
  • Non-removable bean hopper limits cleaning and bean usage
  • No physical grind adjustment wheel, only digital via Bean Adapt, making large adjustments cumbersome
  • 'Iced coffees' are just hot coffees with a prompt to add ice
  • Cold brew exits at 38-39°C and tastes overly bitter, not like true cold brew
  • My Coffee Lounge app is buggy, crashes frequently, and requires Wi-Fi toggling for connectivity
  • User interface experiences lag when swiping through drink options
  • Not recommended for light or very dark roasts due to potential jamming/clogging of non-accessible burrs
  • Espresso quality is comparable to cheaper DeLonghi automatic machines, not superior for a flagship
