The Google Home Speaker (2026) is an excellent entry point for new smart speaker users but offers minimal value as an upgrade for existing Google Home owners. While it boasts slightly faster response times than the Google Home Mini and features a 360-degree omnidirectional speaker that provides clear, balanced sound with punchy bass, its much-touted Gemini Live functionality critically lacks access to personal data or past conversations. Furthermore, it retains the frustrating flaw of sometimes stopping the wrong speaker when given a "stop" command. If you are new to the smart home ecosystem and need an affordable, capable speaker, this device is a compelling choice. However, if you already own a Nest Audio or are primarily seeking a significant Gemini upgrade, you will find this speaker offers an underwhelming experience.
